Bottom Line: It is safe to delete files inside CacheClip. Deleting render cache files will NOT delete your video project files (.drp), original camera footage, or timelines.

What is the DaVinci Resolve CacheClip Folder?

Usually located inside your video project drive (or %USERPROFILE%\Videos\CacheClip / ~/Movies/CacheClip), CacheClip is the render cache folder used by Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve.

When editing 4K or 8K video, DaVinci Resolve generates:

• Render Cache: Pre-rendered video clips for Fusion effects, color grades, and transitions so playback is smooth.
• Optimized Media & Proxies: Transcoded lower-resolution copies of heavy video files.

Because high-bitrate video render files are huge, working on just a few video projects can cause CacheClip to balloon to 50 GB, 150 GB, or over 300 GB.

Can You Delete CacheClip?

• No project file loss: Your master DaVinci Resolve database, timeline edits, audio tracks, and color grading nodes remain 100% intact.
• Re-renderable: If you reopen an old project, DaVinci Resolve will simply re-render cache files for that timeline on demand.

How to Safely Clean Up DaVinci Resolve CacheClip

Method 1: Delete Render Cache inside DaVinci Resolve (Recommended)

1. Open DaVinci Resolve and open your project.
2. Go to the top menu bar: Playback > Delete Render Cache.
3. Choose:
   • Unused… (Deletes render cache for clips no longer in your active timeline).
   • All… (Clears all render cache for the current project).

Method 2: Manual Deletion via File Explorer / Finder

To wipe render cache for old finished projects you no longer edit:

1. Open File Explorer or Finder and locate your CacheClip directory.
2. Inside CacheClip, delete the subfolders associated with old project IDs.
3. Empty Trash / Recycle Bin to reclaim hundreds of gigabytes immediately.
